CTYou really cannot have a bad day on Block Island. It is a great place for a getaway. At less than 10 miles long, Block Island is a unique, special island 12 miles off the coast of Rhode Island that is as entertaining as it is relaxing.

Since Block Island doesn’t have a traffic light, it makes more sense to take your boat for a perfect day trip. Depending on which direction you are coming from, there are two main harbors surrounding Block Island.

Old Harbor has the island’s public dock. Mooring here is first-come, first served. It is convenient to reach the island’s main center.

On the west side of the island, New Harbor has Payne’s Dock, Champlin’s Marina, and The Boat Basin. For more information:

Once on the island, head to The Historical Society to get a thorough history of the island. Then take a look at the horizon by visiting the North Lighthouse and the Southeast Lighthouse. These worthwhile historic landmarks also provide amazing views.

After all the views and walking, you’ll be hungry. Luckily, there are amazing restaurants on Block Island. Seafood options abound but most restaurants in town offer many options for all your dining needs. For a complete list of restaurants on the island see here: If you won’t be boating the same day, cool off and relax with a mudslide, Block Island’s official tasty frozen cocktail!
