Summer boating isn’t all about sunshine. When the sun goes down, the sky lights up again in brilliant colors visible from the comfort of your boat.

Fireworks are weather dependent, so always confirm the event, timing, and location before heading out. Check the latest marine weather report and current charts before setting out (leave early to ensure a good spot). Keep clear of designated security/safety zones. Seek out the harbormaster or other enforcement personnel for the latest info on wind direction, as you want to be clear of where the wind will deposit ashes.

Skippers must be comfortable operating a vessel at night. Know the return route, keep a keen eye on other boats and wave activity, and listen to VHF radio for alerts about changing conditions.
