9363984301_03dbd11287_hOne of the top aquariums in New England invites you to visit for exploring and learning about aquatic and land-based animals. Dating back to when they first opened their doors in 1988, this not-for-profit corporation wanted to increase awareness of live animal exhibits and the importance of them. Their annual attendance is around 500,000 visitors, having a major influence on the Norwalk community.

Did you know they use about eighteen tons of salt every year to make salt water for the tanks, and the animals consume more than fourteen tons of fish every year?

Don’t worry, moon jellies stinging cells are known to be gentle. Trained volunteers will also be there to guide you.To see some furry friends, head over to the meerkats exhibit, where you can watch all six of them play and run around. Get closer to them in the viewing bubble! You will see that they stand on their back legs a lot, and love to be with others. Next to this exhibit are the dragons, the Black Dragon and the Weedy Sea Dragon, both with very intense color to them. The Black Dragon can grow up to six feet and weigh over 60 pounds.

Be daring and touch sharks, rays, and horseshoe crabs in the two touch tanks!

They have daily shows to see the harbor seals at 11:45 am, 1:45 pm, and 3:45 pm. Check out the viewings they have in their IMAX Theater, including classic documentaries and Hollywood movies.

The aquarium is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and general admission ranges from $12.95 to $19.95 (at time of publication). Another admission is required to see IMAX movies and to go on the cruise.

Birthday parties and sleepovers with the animals are other options that are available as well at the aquarium.

You can visit by boat! Transient space is available at the Norwalk Visitor’s Docks (203-854-7806).
